List of approved UK pilgrim services agents (for Hajj)
For the last month (18 August to 18 September 2010) I have been looking at the the list of approved UK Hajj Travel agents issued by the Ministry of Hajj (MoJ) in Saudi Arabia (The results can be found below).

(1) I have checked to see if these travel Agents have ATOL. It must be stated that not all of the companes listed by the MoH are ATOL registered. ATOL is a protection scheme for air holidays and flights managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). All tour operators and travel firms selling air holiday packages and flights in the UK as a principal are required by law to hold a licence called an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL). If an ATOL tour operator fails, the ATOL scheme ensures customers contracted with the ATOL holder for an air package or a flight, do not lose the money paid over or are not stranded abroad. e.g. After the collapse of Luton-based tour operator Go4 Hajj a couple of years ago, pilgrims were refunded £270,000 from the firm's ATOL protection.
Unfortunately there have been many scams played by criminals operating as Hajj agents (whom my family & I have been a victim) and an ATOL registered company is one way of eliminating these vermins (may Allah (SWT) forgive them and show them the right path).

(2) A reputable travel agent should be part of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) or Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO). Before you pay, make sure you have a copy the itinerary in writing and always read the terms and conditions. You should also make sure you receive a full receipt and ATOL confirmation invoice.
If the travel arrangements, accommodation or other service during the pilgrimage fall short of what was paid for, complaints can be made with a view to obtaining a refund under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tour (Amendment) Regulation 1998.
I searched the names and office & registered office postcodes of companies within the ABTA members list to determineand if the Travel Agenst listed by MoH were ABTA members. To double check ABTA members please Click Here!
(3) Some Travel agents are IATA accrediated. IATA is an international airline association. Airline agents accredited to IATA are also able to issue tickets. IATA agents can be checked Here! BUT you will need to have their (the Travel Agents) number to validate if they are IATA accrediated. Checking IATA status is not as important as checking ATOL. Due to time constraints I have only briefly checked the websites of agents to see if they are IATA accrediated.
(4) Another way to check for a Travel Agents status is to check how long they have been in operation. Most companies are registered in the UK as Limited companies and you should be able to check their names in the Companies House database. To check Click Here! This will tell you if they are still trading or how long the company has been set up. If they are not registered then you will have to ask yourself if they are a proper trading company. I have listed all the companies that are trading below. Offical company registered address will be the same as their office adrress unless stated.
(5) Ask the Travel Agent if they are the muazzam card holder. This is basically the company which will be providing you with the Hajj visa. If so, ask to see it.
Choosing a Hajj Agents
These are all good indicators in choosing a travel agent – but these indicators does not necessarily mean that they will guarantee you a good experience whilst in the Holy lands – that is why it is best to use reputable agents that other pilgrims have recommended.
There are many criterias you will need to consider before choosing a travel agent.
Items such as the dates of flights, food (if it will be provided), accommodation (will you be sharing rooms with others), proximity to the sacred mosques, languages spoken, group leaders (how involved they will be), Quarbani etc etc.
